Everlast’s Volvo EX30: Stylish upgrades debunk ‘Boring EV’ myth

When it comes to electric cars, they may lack the auditory experience normally associated with ICE-powered vehicles, which includes hearing the internal combustion engine cranking, but they aren't as dull as many perceive them to be.

For instance, Everlast Customs, a Netherlands-based aesthetics company, can fully customise the Volvo EX30's look to exude a more stylish etiquette. Best known for its bold and distinctive EX30 wheel designs, colours, and trim changes, the company has now unveiled its latest Sport wheel designs, which are an inch larger than Volvo's maximum offering.

Unlike the standard wheels that come with the EX30 from the factory, Everlast Customs now offers the Sport configuration in two exclusive designs of 21-inch forged alloy wheels: Duo Spoke or Block Spoke.

Speaking of the latter, it features a 6-spoke design, either in full diamond-cut fascia or satin black with a diamond-cut outer ring. Pair these with the original EX30’s dynamic stance, and you have a bold-looking crossover SUV.

The Duo Spoke, on the other hand, features a 4-spoke wheel design with a full diamond-cut edge and distinctive line pattern. This is further complemented by a lowered sports suspension.

Apart from tweaking the wheels, the Sport package also adds colour-matched enhancements to the roof, lower bumpers, and door cladding. Buyers can choose to have the outer ring of the alloy wheel centre caps and front and rear spoilers painted in a bright orange hue, while the front fascia is fitted with black corners beneath the headlights with the Everlast insignia on the bottom left corner.

Other features include a matte black surface between the taillights.

“Our Sport design work is tailored exclusively and precisely for the EX30, offering owners an unparalleled level of personalisation to express their unique style while relishing in the cutting-edge performance of this exceptional piece of Volvo design," says Niels van Roij, co-owner and designer at Everlast.

The Volvo EX30 is available in SA in different trim levels, with prices starting at R775,900 for the base model and R995,900 for the range-topper. The wheel options cost €9,540, equivalent to approximately R196,286 at the current exchange rate.

Indeed, the advancements in EV customisation, as demonstrated by Everlast Customs, ensure that EVs can be tailored to the buyer’s preferences. This challenges the notion that electric cars are bland or lack personalisation options.
