Juicing up the Corolla Cross: Toyota Introduces the GR-S Hybrid

Toyota South Africa is giving its Corolla Cross hybrid the GR-S touch following the introduction of the Corolla Cross GR-S in 2022.

Based on the Xr variant, the GR-S touch equips the Corolla Cross hybrid with bespoke exterior features such as a reworked front grille in gloss black. The same treatment has been applied to the lower apron with the signature ‘GR Mesh’.

There are vertical air ducts that incorporate foglight units, large Toyota insignia, black exterior mirrors, a black roof and roof rails, as well as a GR badge mounted to the rear.

It comes in three exterior shades; Three exterior colours are offered, which match the GR brand colours: Arizona Red Bi-Tone, Chromium Silver Bi-Tone and Glacier White Bi-Tone.

Moving inside, you are greeted by stylish black leather trim further complemented by GR embossing on the front headrests, red contrast stitching and perforation, and a red accent stripe on the instrument panel. There is also a piano black surface detailing, a three-spoke steering wheel with red stitching and piano black inserts.

For enhanced handling prowess, the Corolla Cross hybrid GR-S is kitted with new shock absorbers, revised coil springs, new EPS, and unique 18″ wheels finished in black and wrapped in 225/50R18 tyres.

Powering the Corolla Cross GR-S Hybrid is the same 1.8-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor for a total system output of 90 kW and 163 Nm of torque. The transmission comes courtesy of a CVT gearbox with 7 pre-programmed steps and a manual mode.

Priced at R495,200, the Corolla Cross GR-S Hybrid represents good value for buyers on a budget as it offers impressive space, excellent road manners and unmatched fuel economy rated at 4.3l/100km, all for under half a million.

It’s sold with a standard 6-services/90,000 km service plan and a 3-year/100,000 km warranty. The hybrid battery comes with an 8-year/195,000 km warranty provision.
