A Convertible GT3? Driving the ALL-NEW Porsche 911 GT3 S/C

A convertible GT car? It sounds like the epitome of an automotive paradox. The Porsche GT department is dedicated to purist driving, so taking the roof off a GT3 seems to go totally off script. We sent Avon Middleton to the heatwave-ravaged Swabian Alps in Germany to find out if Porsche has built an extraordinary piece of engineering, or simply compromised the GT3 formula. This is the new Porsche 911 GT3 S/C (Sport/Cabriolet). Underneath the lightweight carbon fibre and titanium bodywork lies the glorious 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six, revving to an unbelievable 9,000 RPM. Paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual gearbox, it promises the same visceral engagement as the GT3 Touring, but with nothing between you and that mechanical soundtrack. Does the obsessive weight-saving programme pay off? Is it worth the R6.1 million price tag over a standard GT3 Touring? Watch the full review to find out.
