Michelin 24H Series heading to Kyalami in January 2027
The local racing calendar is already exciting, and looking ahead to 2027, it appears to be even more packed than usual, with the addition of a highly competitive endurance race.
The Michelin 24H Series is bringing its international 24-hour race to Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit for the first time in SA. The race, set to take place from 8 to 10 January 2027, will also mark the official new home of the championship 24-hour race, with Kyalami replacing Dubai as the host.
This will allow local fans to watch GT and Touring cars race through the day and into the night. According to Creventic, the official endurance racing promoter, the relocation of the race comes after the ongoing uncertainty in the Gulf region and the resulting impact on logistics, transport planning and operating costs.
That said, Kyalami will become the first African venue to host an event under the Michelin 24H Series banner. Not only that, but the move also marks the return of premium international endurance racing to the legendary track, which last hosted an international endurance event in 2023.
As for the track, it’s known for its elevation changes, blind crests and fast-flowing corners. Therefore, it will provide a very different challenge to the championship’s traditional Middle Eastern venue. To add to that, the 40-garage pit complex and modern hospitality were also highlighted by Creventic as key factors in its decision to bring the racing event to SA.
Kyalami has hosted plenty of major local and international racing events over the years, so adding a 24-hour international endurance race to that list feels like a pretty fitting addition. With GT and touring cars competing around the clock, it should bring something different to the local racing calendar and give fans another reason to head to the circuit early in the new year.
The Michelin 24H Series features international GT and touring car endurance racing, with multiple drivers sharing each car throughout the race. We’re certainly looking forward to seeing how the series takes to Kyalami.
What’s still unclear is what becomes of the Dubai round going forward and whether local GT and touring teams will get a shot at grid spots on home soil. Those are the particulars worth watching as more details emerge closer to January.
