Alfa Romeo resets EV ambitions
Few cars offer excitement behind the wheel quite like an Alfa Romeo. It’s a brand renowned for its temperamental reliability but utter joyous driving experience, and with its recent plans to be fully electrified by 2027 sparking some backlash, the brand has decided to offer what the people want with an ICE, EV, and hybrid line-up.
Alfa's former CEO, Jean Philippe, claims that Alfa can adopt a more diverse range of powertrains if that’s what people want. This, for me, is a subtle statement that touches on the reality that nobody wants an electric Alfa. So, this means that the Giulia and Stelvio replacements will offer an ICE alternative alongside a possible electrified variation.
This will also affect models such as the Junior, which is only an EV in markets like the USA, as the brand will further broaden its mild-hybrid offering. This comes as a response to the falling sales numbers in 2024, where the company saw a 19% sales drop in key regions like the US.
On a related note, Alfa Romeo has a large inventory of unsold vehicles that will most likely see further discounts in 2025. We're still waiting to see how this will affect our local market.
The brand has also announced that there is a new supercar in the works. The 33 Stradale looked to be a stunning car at its unveiling, and it's exciting to hear that the brand is working on another exciting project. Now Alfa did promise that the 33 Stradale will be the brand's last full ICE supercar, but this latest news does appeal to the optimist in me, and we could see another fire-breathing monster from the brand in 2026.
