All systems go for the 2022 Red Bull Box Cart Race
For the past 22 years, the Red Bull Box Cart Race event has always been about creativity and competitive fun, but also the thrills and spills along the way.
With that said, it's all systems go for this year's instalment that's taking place on 6 November at the legendary Bo-Kaap area in Cape Town as contenders battle it all out to become the Red Bull Cart 2022 champions. For the first time, the TopGear SA team will also form part of the entry-list.
The event involves teams that are challenged to make non-motorised carts that can go down a slope quicker than those of the other teams. Not only is it judged based on speed, but by the creative design that makes it stand out and the overall team spirit.
The judging panel consists of Red Bull Motorsport athlete Giniel de Villiers, Red Bull FORBs; Skarra Ntubeni, Courtnaé Paul, Nasty C and Emo Adams. The event is hosted by comedian Dalin Oliver alongside award-winning content producer Nadia Jaftha and commentary by Brian Emminis.
Spectators will be able to watch carts go through a challenging slope-like track that includes various obstacles like hay bales and even a few jumps.. So far, over 120 Red Bull Box Cart races have taken place all around the world with over 4 million spectators attending over the years.
"I'm super excited to be back, I first competed in Red Bull Box Cart in 2018 for team Skull Candy - we had such a great time. We had everybody, from MMA fighters to professional Red Bull drivers and we still didn't make it down the track but we had an amazing dance routine along with it", said Red Bull FORB Courtnaé Paul.
