Audi adds a TDI engine to the local Q3 range
The Audi Q3 excels in the compact family SUV category, with plenty of tech and decent driving dynamics, but the local range was short of one thing that would make the compact SUV a competitive all-rounder: a diesel engine.
Diesel engines are still popular in South Africa because of their durability, torque, and power, as well as their unmatched efficiency. That said, the local arm of the German manufacturer is extending its Q3 range with the addition of the 35 TDI derivative, which joins the existing 35 and 40 TFSI and the RS Q3’s 2.5-litre TFSI engine.
Offered in the standard and Sportback body shapes as well as Urban Edition and Black Edition trim levels, the 35 TDI comes in the form of a new 2.0-litre TDI engine with 110kW and 340Nm of torque, enough to accelerate the SUV from 0-100km/h in 9.2 seconds en route to a top speed of 207km/h.
The engine is paired with a 7-speed S Tronic dual-clutch transmission that drives the front wheels.
The Urban Edition adds chrome highlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic glass roof, a parking aid plus package, a comfort key, a rear-view camera, and an electric tailgate. The Black Edition, as its name suggests, has blacked-out elements all around, as well as 19-inch alloy wheels, black exterior mirror housings, a black styling package, a black headliner, and electric sport front seats with seat heating.
The introduction of the TDI engine to the Audi Q3 lineup is poised to enhance its charm, offering outstanding fuel efficiency. While diesel engines may not be the most environmentally friendly option, they continue to attract a devoted segment of consumers who prefer them over petrol engines.
