Audi's School of Performance Driving
BMW M and Merc-AMG have long dominated the advanced driving scene in South Africa, teaching the finer points of driving to owners and anyone who wanted to upskill their driving game. Audi, eager to join the action, has now announced that, for a fee, the public can come and join one of its high-performance driving programmes.
To test the waters, Audi is providing pop-up experiences. Due to the substantial financial commitment to start a fully-fledged school, Audi is providing these mobile experiences, eliminating the need for a permanent facility. Customers can book their spots on the Audi driving experience website to find out when and where these pop-up events will take place.
The primary purpose of creating this experience is to teach the public about better vehicle control, particularly in high-performance vehicles. Therefore, there's no one more qualified at Audi to educate the public on high-performance driving than Mark Allison, the chief instructor of the Audi driving experience team at their driving experience centre in Neuburg, Germany. Mark and his team have developed a comprehensive driving program that helps customers improve their driving skills and gain race-track experience throughout the day.
The choice of vehicles to drive is remarkable. The RS 3, RS 4, RS 5, RS 6, RS Q8, and the V10 R8 are nearly all of Audi's performance models. The circuits where you could potentially put these cars, and your skills, to the test include Kyalami (Gauteng), Dezzi (KwaZulu-Natal), and Plaaspad (Western Cape).
So, should you fancy trying out Audi's high-performance machinery, the course will cost you R9,500. It's a tad pricy compared to other schools, but if Audi lets you pilot most of the RS models in a single day, it's definitely money well spent.
