Bentley applies Blackline specification to posh Flying Spur Mulliner sedan
Things have changed over time. If you recall, chrome detailing used to be associated with sportiness. It wasn't until recently, when some brands started offering their vehicles with dark packages which, as the name suggests, swaps all bright chrome detailing for darkened bits and pieces.
As for the folks at Bentley, they call it the Blackline Specification, and the Continental GT and GT models are recent wearers of the package. According to Bentley, almost every one in five Continental GT Mulliner orders are now specified with Blackline. It surely does look good, no question about that.
It's now the Flying Spur Mulliner's turn to receive the same Blackline Specification which replaces external bright chrome bits for gloss black detailing – with the exception of the 'winged' B insignia that looks to be finished in a matte black coat. With that said, the upper mirror caps are now finished in gloss Beluga Black while the Mulliner Matrix wing vent is finished in a black shade with bright Mulliner branding.
At the front, the radiator grille retains its black look but with bright edges and lower bumper grilles finished in black. The Blackline Specification also adds optional black 22" Mulliner wheels with contrast polished 'pockets', or alternatively 22" Mulliner gloss black wheels with self-levelling badges that spawn chrome rings.
The interior remains untouched as part of the Mulliner variant. As a reminder, buyers can choose any colour combination as part of Mulliner's limitless offering, or one of eight recommended three-colour combinations.
The Flying Spur Mulliner Blackline Specification is available with Bentley's V8 and W12 powertrains, as well as the new V6 Hybrid. In a nutshell, the W12 features a 6.0-litre twin-turbo engine with 467 kW and 900 Nm that's good for a 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.8 seconds.
The V8 wields a 4.0-litre twin-turbo engine with 404 kW and 770 Nm of torque, enough to send the sedan from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. The new V6 Hybrid features a 2.9-litre V6 TFSi engine combined with a 103 kW electric motor for a total power output of 400 kW and 750 Nm of torque. It blisters from 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds.
As a side note, Mulliner will debut a new model called the Batur later this week at Monterey Car Week. It will succeed the Bacalar and will wear an all-new Bentley design.
