Bentley Bentayga EWB: Crewe’s first-class debuts
Bentley is expanding its model range with the introduction of the Bentayga Extended Wheelbase following a nine-figure investment by the manufacturer to create a new model that provides the best rear cabin experience since a Mulsanne.
Based on the second generation of the Bentayga, the EWB’s wheelbase has been stretched by an extra 180 mm resulting in an overall length of 5,322 mm for enhanced rear cabin space. The new SUV is fitted with the Airline Seat specification which Bentley says is the most advanced seat ever fitted to a car.
The feature allows for the rear seat to be adjusted in 22 ways and also comes equipped with a new auto climate-sensing system and postural adjustment technology.
Relax, it’s all about the next-level luxuries
"A highlight of the new tech includes power closing doors for the first time on a Bentley as well as heated rear door and centre armrests"
In Relax mode, the seat can recline to 40 degrees whilst a leather-trimmed forest deploys from the back of the front passenger seat. In Business mode, the seat is positioned to make working on the move more comfortable. The aforementioned auto climate seat technology works by sensing the passenger's temperature and surface humidity and then determines whether to heat or ventilate the cabin.
The new Bentley Bentayga EWB comes standard as a five-seater with two outer rear seats equipped with 16-way of adjustment, heating, ventilation and five individual massage programs. If a five seater doesn’t appeal to your style, there are four- and seven-seat configuration options with the latter only available in the standard Bentayga.
The Bentayga EWB’s interior trim can be configured in so many other ways as well. A highlight of the new tech includes power closing doors for the first time on a Bentley as well as heated rear door and centre armrests.
As for the exterior, the SUV from Crewe features a longer profile, repositioned sunroof new front grille and rides on polished 22” 10-spoke wheels.
The beating heart
Powering the Bentley Bentayga EWB is the firm’s 4.0-litre, 32-valve dual twin-scroll turbocharged V8 engine with 404 kW and 770 Nm that’s good for 4.6-second sprint to 100 km/h. It will continue to accelerate while shuffling through an 8-speed automatic transmission onto a capped top speed of 290 km/h.
Accompanying the Bentayga EWB are two enhanced specifications; Azure and First Edition.
The former features unique signatures such as 22” 10-spoke directional wheels, bright lower bumper grilles, Azure embroidery and badging, unique quilted seats, mood lighting, heated steering wheel, and increased driver’s assistance aids.
The First Edition adds Bentley diamond illumination, metal overlays in the veneer, Naim for Bentley Premium Audio and LED welcome lamps as well as unique embroidery, inlays and badging.
Bentley Motors SA has currently listed the Bentayga EWB on its official site ahead of deliveries earmarked to commence in the fourth quarter of the year depending on the market.
