Bentley Flying Spur to feature Continental GT’s V8 powerplant
Bentley is set to reveal the fourth-generation Flying Spur before the end of the year as a successor to the model that has received extensive praise since it arrived in 2019.
While we wait for the Crewe-based automaker to reveal more details about the new model, the marque has shared powertrain information. By the look of things, the Grand Tourer must prove itself under tougher circumstances than its modern forerunners simply because it ditches the W16 engine for an Ultra Performance Hybrid 4.0-litre V8 unit that was launched recently in the new Continental GT Speed.
Similar to the GT Speed, the V8 engine pushes out a staggering 575kW of power and an earth-moving 1,000Nm of torque, thus making it the most powerful, most dynamic, and most economical vehicle in Bentley’s history books. According to Bentley, the new Flying Spur will be able to travel up to 72km on battery power alone or up to 800km with both setups in place.
Bentley has indicated that further details will be forthcoming, but the Flying Spur will probably adopt the same 8-speed DCT transmission found in the new Continental GT Speed.
What it mentions in the press release, though, is that we can expect improved power and torque across the full rev range, along with an authentic exhaust note that refrains from artificial or electronic enhancements.
The Bentley Flying Spur is like a Bentley Continental GT coupé with two extra doors. That makes it a great starting point for a luxury car with performance to boot.
