Beyond the grandeur of the Goodwood Hillclimb
Goodwood is a festival that highlights the world's motoring achievements throughout the decades and celebrates both driver and race cars as a display of power and skill. This annual festival is a must-attend for any car enthusiast. The Goodwood estate, known for its opulence, hosts a range of thrilling motorsport events throughout the year. The recent Members Meeting was no exception, offering a feast for the senses.
From sidecars to supercars and classic racing machines to modern engineering marvels, the Members Meeting is an exclusive event where Goodwood friends who occupy a membership get together and race against each other in similar vehicles to celebrate the past and present.
Audrain Motorsports hosts the Members Meeting with the aim of replicating the thrills and excitement of the original BARC Members Meeting from the 1950s and 1960s. It’s an event that promotes camaraderie, and although the racing is fierce, the smiles are all around.
The muscle on display at any Goodwood event is nothing short of exceptional. You will be astounded by the cars on display, which range from early 20th-century racing cars to brand-new, never-before-seen releases. This year, GMA displayed their T.33 Mule as a raucous display of modern engineering, but arguably this isn’t what makes the Members Meeting so special.
Cars like the Niki Lauda McLaren MP4/2B and a Ferrari 640 displayed just what made F1 so special back in the day. Of course, there was a wide selection of touring cars going head-to-head in a manner reminiscent of the 1990s. To demonstrate just how far racing has come, with a selection of historic large-motored brutes, some with engines leaning into the 11-litre mark.
Needless to say, the 81st Member Meeting was a great success, and it exemplified why we love racing so much. The Goodwood website offers a plethora of videos to satisfy your curiosity, but for now, we eagerly anticipate what Goodwood has in store for us next.
