Bigger Suzuki Jimny 5-door revealed
There have been speculations regarding the 5-door Suzuki Jimny since the beginning of 2022, and it’s now time to put them to bed.
Say hello to the new Jimny 5-door. Revealed at the Auto Expo in India, it has a lot in common with its 3-door counterpart, but its size matters here. It debuts with an overall length of 3,985 mm, a width of 1,645 mm and a height of 1,720 mm.
Its wheelbase has been stretched to 2,590 mm. For reference, the 3-door Jimny makes do with a 2,250 mm wheelbase.
As we predicted earlier in 2022, the Jimny employs some form of electrification in the form of a mild-hybrid system paired with a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine that churns out 78 kW of power and 134 Nm. A bump of 3 kW and 4 Nm over the 3-door model.
Like the 3-door Jimny, the 5-door variant is available with a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. As a famous off-roader, it comes with a 4WD system, a 36-degree approach angle, a 24-degree break-over angle, a 50-degree departure angle, plus 210 mm of ground clearance.
The interior has been carried over from the 3-door model; however, the 5-door offers more space, thanks to a boot space rated at 208 litres that can be further expanded to 332 litres by folding the rear seats.
Buyers still get the same 9” infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rearview camera and an Arkamys sound system. Safety comes courtesy of hill-hold and hill-descent assist, six airbags, ESP, and EBD.
The new Suzuki Jimny 5-door will be built at the Gurugram plant in India, and it will likely reach our shores soon.
