BMW 7 Series crowned 2024 SA Car of the Year
Earlier this week, a prestigious gala event in Johannesburg crowned the BMW 7 Series the 2024 SA Car of the Year.
It emerged victorious after being subjected to rigorous testing by jurors from the South African Guild of Mobility Journalists among 18 finalists from different manufacturers. If you follow our reviews, you will recall the lasting impression that the BMW 7 Series left when we sampled it, thanks to its superbly comfortable drive, refinement, and outstanding interior.
It remains a vehicle with real character, and it is a fitting example of why such luxury saloons still make sense today. BMW has repeatedly demonstrated its excellence by securing victories in prestigious competitions in the years 1988, 1990, 1993, 1997, 2001, and 2011.
In terms of the competition itself, it’s sponsored by Old Mutual Insure and consists of categories such as Budget/Compact, Compact Family, Family, Premium, Adventure SUV, 4X4 Double Cab, Luxury, and Performance.
Winners in the respective categories include the Suzuki Fronx, Toyota Urban Cruiser, BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Mahindra Scorpio-N, Volkswagen Amarok, BMW 7 Series, and BMW M2, respectively.
"It's heartening to see the automotive industry's dedication to providing high-quality, technologically advanced products across all categories to meet modern buyers' mobility needs," says Mabuyane Mabuza, Chairperson of the SAGMJ COTY competition.
In 2024, OMI established the exclusive OMI COTY Academy for the COTY competition to enhance competition standards and maintain its industry relevance and prestige among car buyers.
