BMW car subscription launches in Mzansi
BMW Group South Africa has launched a subscription car service, dubbed BMW- and MINI Charter, offering drivers the keys to a variety of BMW and MINI vehicles for a single monthly payment. The scheme allows subscribers to switch between vehicles from 12 to 54 months with mileage parameters for individuals who drive fewer than 20,000 km per year.
The fixed monthly rental fee is calculated based on an individual consumer’s chosen rental period and agreed-upon mileage limit (up to 20,000 kilometres per year). This fee includes comprehensive insurance cover, and the BMW Group’s signature Motorplan service plan for added peace of mind. Excluded from the monthly payment are fuel and toll fees, as well as certain wear-and-tear items.
Holistically, users would have to drive anything between 10,000 to 95,000 kilometres for the period, the automaker says.
Subscribers can use a dedicated portal to browse and organise which vehicle they want to receive. BMW is using the local dealerships to operate the scheme, and they'll be responsible for delivering a car that is ordered at the specified time. They'll arrive with a full tank of petrol, or a full battery depending on the model, along with any personal preferences already set. If you wish, you can also collect the vehicle at a dealership.
The vehicle can be returned to a preferred approved BMW or MINI dealership at the end of the rental period.
BMW SA is dipping its toe into the waters of car subscriptions, to see how well the scheme is received. "In keeping with our mission to support consumers in realising their dreams, we want to ensure they can choose a vehicle finance solution that appeals to them and is aligned with their mobility aspirations," Stefan Schuett, Chief Executive Officer for BMW Group Financial Services South Africa said.
