Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max bolstered with an AWD system
When we sampled the refreshed Tiggo 8 range with its front-wheel-drive guise at its launch in 2023, it left the impression that an AWD version would be more suitable for enthusiasts who frequently engage in off-road activities.
Moreover, the front-wheel-drive models exhibited a propensity for wheelspin during acceleration from a stationary position. This issue is expected to be mitigated by the AWD system incorporated into the Tiggo 8 Pro Max.
With a price tag of R731,900, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max AWD is powered by the same 2.0-litre TDGI engine that is present in the Max variant. Despite having an AWD system, it still pumps out 187kW and 390Nm while shifting through a 7-speed DCT transmission that, according to Chery, has been tuned to smoothly deliver power to two or four wheels as required in a matter of 100 milliseconds.
Besides increasing the fuel tank capacity from 51 litres to 57 litres, Chery has also upgraded the suspension to accommodate the AWD system and added a unique drive mode select system.
Everything else has been carried over from the Tiggo 8 Pro Max variants, such as the ADAS system, quilted leather upholstery on all seven seats, a Sony sound system, a fully digital cockpit with two large 12.3-inch screens, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, to name a few.
The introduction of the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max AWD brings something new to the range. Based on our assessment of the Tiggo 7 Pro Max AWD, which we had the opportunity to evaluate over the holiday season, this new addition is indeed a valuable enhancement to the range.
Like the rest of the range, the Tiggo 8 Pro Max AWD is sold with a comprehensive 7-year/90,000km service plan, a 5-year/150,000km warranty, a full 10-year/1-million-km engine warranty, and 5-year unlimited distance Roadside Assistance.
