Citroen recalls C3 and DS3 due to faulty Takata airbags

Citroën has issued a safety recall for its C3 and DS3 models that were manufactured between 2009 and 2019 and fitted with Takata airbags.

According to Citroen, the chemical components of Takata airbags can worsen over time due to hot and humid conditions; therefore, in the event of a collision, the airbag inflator may rupture with excessive force, which may cause serious injury or even death.

Citroën strongly advises owners of the affected C3 and DS3 models to have their airbags replaced at an authorised Citroën dealership. This service is provided at no cost and typically takes less than two hours to complete. The replacement of the defective airbags will restore vehicles to their original safety standards.

Citroën further emphasises that customer safety is the brand’s highest priority. The brand is dedicated to proactively reaching out to owners and custodians of the affected models to facilitate the necessary repairs swiftly and conveniently.

Just in case you are not sure if your Citroën car is affected, you can visit your nearest dealership or contact 0860 738472.

Alternatively, you can visit https://www.citroen.co.za/maintain/recall-campaigns.html/ to check whether your VIN number is affected and to arrange for this important upgrade to be installed in your vehicle as soon as possible.
