F1-inspired Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Motorsport Collectors Edition debuts with special garb
While the 2022 Formula 1 season is done and dusted, and teams are already readying themselves for the start of the 2023 iteration, Mercedes-AMG decided to introduce a unique SL 63 model to mark last season.
Reflecting the look of the F1 W12 E Performance racer and anointed the Motorsport Collectors Edition, the AMG SL 63 wears silver and obsidian black metallic hues further complemented by Petronas-shaded contrasts on the front apron, side sill panels and rear diffuser.
The special SL 63 sits on 21” AMG 10-twin-spoke forged wheels painted in matt black with Petronas-coloured rim flanges. As for the electrically-operated soft top, it comes in black. For enhanced aerodynamics, the SL 63 comes fitted with the AMG Aerodynamics package. This adds larger flics on the front and rear aprons, a more prominent rear diffuser, and an active underbody profile.
For a much more added appeal, the SL 63 comes with the AMG Night package and the AMG Night package II. The former swaps chrome detailing on selected exterior features for high-gloss black; these include the front splitter, side sill panels, mirror caps, decorative trim in the rear diffuser, plus exhaust pipes.
The latter adds additional features with black chrome, including the radiator grille, typography, Mercedes star at the back, interior components of the head and rear lights and brake callipers. The AMG fuel filler cap remains painted with silver chrome coating.
Moving inside, the SL 63 comes standard with AMG Performance seats that can be had in two upholsteries; black Nappa leather/micro cut microfibre plus an embossed AMG emblem on the head restraints or in black Nappa leather with yellow topstitching.
It also comes standard with heated AMG Performance steering wheels, Burmester 3D surround sound system, ambient lighting, MBUX Interior Assistant, Driving Assistance package and the head-up display.
Buyers of the special SL 63 Motorsport Collectors Edition will receive a customised AMG indoor car cover with a logo and the Guard 360 to protect the special-edition model.
Mercedes-AMG didn’t fiddle with the SL 63’s engine. It still packs the same AMG 4.0-litre V8 engine that pumps out a gruesome 430 kW and 800 Nm of torque sent to all four wheels via an AMG Speedshift MCT 9G transmission. As an open-air monster, it will get your hair dried up quickly with a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 3.6 seconds before hitting the limiter at 315 km/h.
Mercedes-AMG plans to build only 100 units of the SL 63 Motorsport Collectors Edition model.
