Called the SF90 XX Stradale and SF90 Spider, the sports cars are the brand's latest models to come out of the XX programme and the first road-going cars based on the SF90 Stradale of 2019.
All previous iterations of the XX were track-only weapons, while the SF90 Stradale road car remains Italy's masterpiece and a model that ushered the brand towards electrification.
Revealed at the private Fiorano Circuit in Italy, the duo is road legal and are rare breeds. Speaking of their rarity, the marque from Maranello plans to make only 799 SF90 XX Stradale and 599 SF90 XX Spider units.
Lighter and More Powerful
Mechanically, the duo means serious business courtesy of a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbocharged engine paired with three electric motors; two mounted on the front axle and one between the engine and gearbox.
The setup is good for 757 kW of power, which is 22 kW more than what the regular SF90 Stradale puts down to the tarmac.
With a dry weight of 1,560 kg and 1,660 kg for the Coupé and Spider models, respectively, Ferrari says the duo can hurtle from 0-100 km/h in 2.3 seconds en route to a top speed of 320 km/h while shifting through an 8-speed F1 DCT transmission.
As for the hybrid system, it consists of a 7.9 kWh battery pack that will enable both cars to whisk around silently for up to 25 km on e-power alone.
Oh, it sounds pretty fantastic, too, and we have to agree with Ferrari on that. It says it has redesigned the SF90 XX Stradale's soundtrack across the engine's rev range.
Supreme Downforce
Ferrari has engineered the SF90 XX from the ground up to make it the most efficient aerodynamic performance road car in the history books of the firm from Italy.
That said, it comes with a redesigned cooling flow management, a fixed rear wing that ensures 315 kg of downforce at 250 km/h, a new layout of the underbody, redesigned side louvres on the lower part of the front bumper and a larger specific front splitter.
Ferrari has fitted the SF90 Stradale XXs for added downforce at high speeds with a larger and broader front diffuser that adds downforce of over 45 kg at 250 km/h.
It sits on 255/35 ZR F20 tyres at the front and bigger 315/30 ZR F20 for that extra traction.
Weight-Saving Interior
The interior is similar to the regular SF90 Stradale, yet there are bits and pieces to make up for its unique character, such as a dashboard wrapped in Alcantara and carbon fibre trim scattered around the cabin. While significant weight savings come from the mechanicals, there are carbon sports seats that should make for a comfortable ride and be more suited to a wider selection of drivers.
The Coupé and the Spider are two peas in a pod, but they have their distinctions. The Spider's roof can be opened and closed in 14 seconds at speeds of up to 41 km/h, while the Coupé has a rear deck with inlets that the Spider lacks.
A Rare Sight, Indeed.
The Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale and Spider are more than just special edition models. They bring more to the table through superb track technology, enhanced aerodynamic efficiency, and lighter and more potent options.
This takes the brand's road-going models to a new spectrum of supercars, and sadly, all units are spoken for.
