Are you a qualified virtual racer; capable of kissing the apex at the right angle, the right speed lap after lap? Well, if you answered ‘yes, you might just be in for a shot at representing Ford SA's first-ever Esports team.
Ford SA’s sim-racing competition is geared for launch on 23 August 2021 where, in a first-ever for South African simmers, racers will be able to represent the country on a global stage and see who’s the fastest against five European countries. The competition runs in alignment with Ford’s e-Racing division known as Fordzilla.
The competition will be hosted on PC using the popular Assetto Corsa as a platform. Other than that, the only requirements are a good helping of speed and a reliable and relatively fast internet connection.
Between 30 August and 6 September, all registered racers will have the opportunity to set their fastest laps. Thereafter, the 20 fastest racers will leave it all on the virtual track as they are set to compete against each other. The top three placements following this event will, while also winning amazing prizes, represent South Africa in the Team Fordzilla Nations Cup that’s scheduled to take place in November.
“Being able to incorporate sim-racing with Ford’s long and proud history in motorsport through a variety of accurately-rendered Ford racing cars is an exciting new way to build an aspirational connection to the Ford product family and experience,” said Doreen Mashinini, General Manager for Marketing at Ford South Africa.
“Esports is widely regarded as the fastest growing sport in the world. Having South Africa represented at an international level as part of the Team Fordzilla Nations Cup is testament to the popularity of the sport in the country, and we are confident that our South African gamers will rise to the occasion.”
