Ford in Europe is expanding its Mustang range with the introduction of the California Special for the first time.
Channelling the spirit of the iconic 1968 original with unique design details, the Ford Mustang California Special is offered exclusively in convertible body style and comes fitted with the special-edition package.
The package includes unique detailing, badging, special colour shift, as well as five-spoke 19” alloy wheels in Carbonised Grey, finishing. The Mustang California Special also comes equipped with a front grille finished in ebony black with GT/CS insignia coated in a Race Red hue.
On the sides, the Mustang gets lower side stripes in black, red and grey. These incorporate the GT/CS logos while the stripes that run from the front to the rear wings have a hidden ‘California Special’ lettering.
The front-end features a larger front-splitter plus optional rear-side air-scoops. At the back, there is a California Special faux filler cap positioned above the quad exhaust tips.
The interior contains a bespoke California Special detailing for an exclusive appeal as well as standard comfort technologies such as heated and cooled front seats, a 12” customisable instrument cluster, and advanced SYNC 3 connectivity.
There are no changes on the performance front with the pony featuring the same naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 engine that produces 331 kW and 529 Nm of torque. A choice of two transmissions can be had; a 6-speed manual with rev-matching technology and a 10-speed automatic.
A 0-100 km/h sprint is dispatched in 4.8 seconds for the manual variant and 4.5 seconds for the auto box. There is a strut tower brace with a California Special badge under the bonnet.
The Ford Mustang California Special comes standard with a limited-slip differential and an optional MagneRide 6 suspension system.
The new Ford Mustang California Special is strictly for the European market while we are hoping that may change at some point.
