High-octane humour: Wade Young’s comedic race with the Goliaths
Known for his exceptional talent, Wade Young made history in 2012 when he rocked the world of endurance motorbike racing with his superb debut.
His first appearance was nothing short of spectacular, as he clinched the title of the youngest-ever champion of the gruelling Roof of Africa race in Lesotho. Now at 27, Young is joining forces with the comedic Goliaths in their latest Red Bull series, Giving It Gear with Jason Goliath. This unique partnership promises a fusion of grit, determination, and a surge of laughter.
According to Wade Young, shooting the episode is ‘an unreal experience’ as the Goliaths are naturally funny and easy-going, making him feel at home in front of the camera.
“It was a lot different from what I am used to at the race,” said Young. He further went on to say that the episode will introduce new viewers to the world of hard enduro through laughter.
Speaking of the episode, Young pushes his limits in hard-enduro racing, and he explains what his day-to-day training looks like. According to him, he analyses skills and improves his fitness, while on race weekends, he morphs into a data detective, gathering nuggets of information, analysing patterns, and decoding the secrets of his performance.
As the motorbike racer reflected on his time working on the show and with the Goliaths, he fondly recalled "chatting to them when the cameras weren’t rolling, genuinely good guys with big ambitions and goals in life. As funny as they are, they have a great understanding of people and how life works.”
At one point, Nicholas Goliath sucked petrol out of the tank, accidentally getting some in his mouth, as Young recounted the unexpectedly humorous moments during the episode's filming: “I know how it tastes, and he played it off well”.
Young hopes people will gain encouragement from watching the episode to get out and go on adventures, such as seeing Sani Pass and what South Africa has to offer.
This unique fusion of high-octane racing and local humour promises to be an exciting ride. The Giving It Gears with Jason Goliath episode aired on November 8 and can be watched online here.
