As new as it is to the market, the Hyundai Palisade was late to arrive on local shores due to the effects of the pandemic and already, the Korean manufacturer has enhanced the SUV for the MY23 model year.
Making its appearance at the New York International Auto Show, the refreshed Hyundai Palisade features a new front end in the form of a wider and cascading front grille, a new bumper, and new vertically connected LED composite lights plus new strake detailing on the lower front skid plate.
The drama at the back has been kept at a minimum and now features a new bumper fascia, new vertical LED taillights and lower fascia skid plate details. The outside mirrors now boast an auto-dimming feature.
Hyundai says it has worked on the aerodynamics of the Palisade courtesy of specific design tweaks that include a fast A-pillar angle, rear spoiler side garnish, and an optimised front cooling area with an extended air guide, aero underside panels as well as rear-wheel aero deflectors. It runs on new 20” multi-spoke alloy wheels.
Inside, the Palisade is equipped with an Ergo driver’s seat that has been designed to provide comfort and help reduce fatigue during long drives. For the first time in a Hyundai, the third row of seats now comes with heating functionality while the second row now offers wing-out headrests and seat ventilation for extra comfort.
There is a full-display digital centre rear-view mirror that allows the driver to see behind the car as well as new slim horizontal air vents plus a redesigned instrument panel and new ambient lighting themes. Hyundai has upgraded the wireless charging capability from 5 watts to 15 watts for faster charging prowess. The Palisade supports the latest version of Hyundai Digital Key and WiFi hot spot capability.
Still on the inside, the refreshed Hyundai Palisade can accommodate up to eight passengers as standard with ingress and egress to the third row of seats made easier via a One-Touch functionality. The third row offers power-folding and unfolding reclining seats. The second-row captain’s chairs while USB-C outlets have been added. .
While we expect the 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel powerplant with its 142 kW and 440 Nm to soldier on as it is in the local sphere, overseas markets are getting a potent 3.8-litre V6 with 217 kW and 355 Nm of torque. The latter is paired with a refined 8-speed automatic transmission that either drives two or all four wheels.
With the AWD system, it adds what Hyundai calls Tow Mode which adjusts the towing powertrain profile, holding lower gears longer and reducing the frequency of shifting response.
On the safety front, the Palisade comes with an extended range of safety technologies such as standard rear side-impact airbags, forward collision-avoidance assist, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, safe exit assist, driver attention warning, high beam assist, navigation-based smart cruise control, lane following assist, highway driving assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, reverse parking collision-avoidance assist and remote smart parking assist.
For the MY23 model year, the Palisade is also offered with a new dark-themed model that carries the XRT nameplate that comes fitted with dark-finish, rugged-themed 20” alloy wheels, rugged-look front and rear fascia with skid plate design elements, rugged-look lower door trim, dark-finish front grille, black roof rails, power sunroof and black leatherette seating surfaces.
The new Hyundai Palisade is expected to launch in overseas markets in the coming months and our market should follow rightly after.
