Jag F-Type ZP Edition signals the likely retirement of the ICE-powered sports car
This is it, folks. The end of the road for internal combustion sports cars is near as Jaguar prepares to become an all-electric car brand by 2025 as part of its Reimagine Strategy.
To commemorate the end of ICE-powered Jaguar sports cars, the British marque has revealed an exclusive limited-edition F-Type ZP Edition, which will be the last engine-powered sports car to come from Jaguar.
As the final hurrah for the F-Type, which has been Jaguar's flagship sports car since 2013, only 150 units of the F-Type ZP Edition will be made in both coupe and convertible body styles; however, SA customers will only receive the former.
Speaking of the F-Type ZP Edition, it’s also a tribute to the legendary XK120, which was the first sports car produced by Jaguar after World War II and set multiple speed records for its time.
The Jaguar SV Bespoke Group has equipped the final and most exclusive F-Type with a number of unique features, including unique body colours in Oulton Blue Gloss and Crystal Grey Gloss. The former can be paired with a dual-tone interior treatment in red and black, while the latter pairs blue and black shades for the first time ever in an F-Type.
The exterior hues which we find stunning are further complemented by gloss black exterior accents, gloss black brake callipers, ‘F-Type ZP Edition’ branding on the fenders, and 20-inch forged alloys in Gloss Black Diamond finish.
The interior also adds horizontal seat fluting and a ‘One of 150’ SV Bespoke commissioning plaque.
A 5.0-litre V8 supercharged engine, capable of producing 423kW and 700Nm of torque, resides underneath the F-Type ZP Edition's long bonnet, capable of propelling the sports car from zero to 100km/h in 3.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 300km/h.
Just in case the numbers remind you of something, they are similar to those churned out by the F-Type R P575 variant, which also shifts through an 8-speed automatic gearbox plus an all-wheel drive system.
“The F-Type has captivated sports car drivers for more than a decade, just as the E-Type did five decades before it. The ZP Edition is the ultimate celebration of that lineage, joining an illustrious roster of heritage-inspired collector’s editions including the 2015 Project 7 and 2020 Heritage 60 Edition”, says Rawdon Glover, Managing Director at Jaguar.
After more than 75 years of internal combustion-powered sports car production, Jaguar is finally joining the EV evolution, and one thing is for sure: the V8 cacophony lurking underneath its sports cars will go down in history as one of the best.
If you are a fan of petro-and-noise Jaguar sports cars, this is your last chance to own one before they go altogether extinct.
