Koenigsegg CC850 debuts to mark brand's first production CC8S
As a vehicle that got Koenigsegg from the ground up 20 years ago, the iconic CC8S played in its own league with its segment-changing power figures.
Twenty years later, the Swedish carmaker has built a new model to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the CC8S model and only 50 units will be produced to mark the founder's 50th birthday. Say hello to the new CC850.
At first glance, the new CC850 is a contemporary image of the CC8S, yet it employs the same 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 from the Jesko sportscar. However, in this application, the engine does away with a flywheel and according to Koenigsegg, is more responsive than ever. The marque is no stranger to surpassing boundaries with the CC850 pumping out 1,033 kW when fuelled by E85 fuel and 884 kW and 1,385 Nm with normal fuel. Tipping the weight scales at 1,385 kg, we expect blistering 0-100 km/h sprint times.
The transmission, on the other hand, is quite odd. It's the world's first Engage Shift System (ESS) and Koenigsegg says it allows for different gear ratios depending on the driving mode. Based on the carmaker's Light Speed Transmission, the ESS is paired with a clutch pedal, which means it can also run as a smooth-shifting 9-speed automatic transmission when the need arises. If not, only six gears of the nine are available.
In the looks department, the new CC850 features the sleek Nordic Koenigsegg design, telephone-dial style rims, and triple taillights. In typical Koenigsegg style, the CC850 spawns the iconic detachable hardtop, the synchrohelix door system and the Autoskin function.
