Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato has Porsche's 911 Dakar in its crosshairs
If you thought sports cars could only be driven on the tarmac and the track, think again. Porsche's recently-revealed 911 Dakar promises to become a serious go-anywhere sports car, thanks to its badass off-road credentials.
Lamborghini has joined the fray with its Huracán Sterrato all-terrain super sports car that has been spotted countless times undergoing stringent testing.
Unlike the Porsche 911 Dakar, the Huracán Sterrato wields a bigger 5.2-litre V10 engine that unleashes 449 kW and 560 Nm of torque. With all four wheels pulling via the 7-speed DCT and electronically-controlled AWD with rear mechanical self-locking differential, the Sterrato can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds on unpaved and sandy surfaces. It will continue to run until it reaches a top speed of 260 km/h.
Outside, the Sterrato maintains its off-road stance, thanks to a ground clearance raised by 44 mm compared with the Huracán EVO for greater suspension travel, plus front and rear track widths that are 30 mm and 34 mm more.
Besides protection for the whole body, it features aluminium front underbody protection, reinforced sills, a rear diffuser and sturdy wheel arches. There is a classic air intake on the rear hood for a clean engine air supply when tackling dusty off-road terrains.
A set of exclusive 19" rims wrapped in custom-engineered Bridgestone Dueler AT002 tyres are home to brakes with aluminium fixed monoblock callipers with six pistons on the front and four at the back, as well as ventilated and cross-drilled carbon-ceramic discs.
Compared with the Huracán EVO, the Sterrato is kitted with an uprated version of the LDVI system with Strada and Sport calibrations and adds the Rally mode for the first time.
Inside, owners are greeted by bespoke Alcantara Verde Sterrato upholstery, an HMI system that boasts new graphics and, for the first time, special driving features such as a pitch and roll indicator and a compass. According to the Italian marque, the new Huracán Sterrato comes with almost unlimited possibilities for customizing the car's appearance through the brand's Ad Personam program.
Lamborghini plans to build 1,499 units of the Huracán Sterrato from February 2023, and pricing will be announced at a later stage.
