Maserati celebrates its heritage with two updated MC20 models.
The most incredible performance cars often stem from the racing scene, and Maserati is no stranger to the motorsports world. This distinguished Italian manufacturer is responsible for one of my all-time favourite cars, as well as arguably one of the meanest pieces of metal to ever drive on the road.
The Ferrari V12-powered Maserati MC12, one of the most imposing cars of its time, is a work of art that dominated the GT racing scene in the early 2000s. To honour this past legend, Maserati will release limited editions of the MC12's little brother, the MC20, and the look is exceptional.
Maserati designed their new special editions, the MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda, to honour the racing heritage of the MC12. The Icona is the first on the list and represents the MC12 Stradale, one of the most iconic Maseratis ever made. The Bianco Audace Matte and Blu Stradale paintwork is breathtaking, with the addition of blue brake calipers, an Italian flag on the door, a carbon fibre engine cover, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and of course, the chrome-plated wheels. The inspiration for this edition began in 2004 with the Maserati Trofeo Light, which competed in the 24 Hours of Daytona.
The second special edition is the MC20 Leggenda, which proudly features the Nero Essenza and Digital Mint Matte colours of the particularly special MC12 GT1 under the Vitaphone Racing team. This classic MC12 won a record three wins and two runner-up spots in the Spa 24 Hours. It sports the Maserati Trident wheels in Nero Lucido with Nero Opaco and Trident Digital Mint hubcaps and black calipers.
Both special editions receive the racing interior, which offers a plethora of atmosphere-enhancing equipment and items, including lightweight monocoque 4-way racing seats, a trident-embroidered headrest with either Leggenda or Icona, a Faber sound system, and a centre section that complements the livery on the exterior. These editions come with the carbon fibre interior package to ensure the exclusive feel is always present. The MC20 special editions also come with an electronic LSD, special mats for the boot and floor, and a suspension lifter for the bumps.
These models celebrate the 20th anniversary of the MC12, and to ensure the legend stays alive, the two MC20 options will have 20 units made for each variation, so seeing one on the road is about as likely as seeing an MC12. It is a beautiful gesture from a beautiful car to ensure legends like this live on.
