Maserati GranCabrio Folgore debuts as an all-electric convertible masterpiece
Following the resurrection of the Maserati GranTurismo nameplate a couple of years ago, many of you will recall the EV variant, which bears the Folgore plaque, as the brand’s first electric car.
The GranCabrio Folgore, which aims to appeal to those who enjoy open-top motoring, now joins the GranTurismo.
The GranTurismo Folgore, like its hardtop sibling, uses an 800-volt architecture derived from Formula E and three powerful permanent magnet motors: two at the rear axle and one at the front axle. This model serves as a preview of future electrification trends.
According to Maserati, each motor is capable of producing 300kW, which theoretically translates to 900kW collectively generated from all three motors. However, the Italian carmaker says that the 92.5 kWh battery pack only produces a discharge capacity of 560kW or 610kW for short stints when the MaxBoost mode is selected. The torque figures reach an earth-shaking 1,350 Nm.
Maserati doesn't provide the GranCabrio Folgore's sprint times, but the hardtop races from 0 to 100km/h in 2.7 seconds and will accelerate to a maximum velocity of 320 km/h. We expect the sprint time to differ slightly, taking into account the added bulk of convertibles.
The GranCabrio Folgore’s soft top derivative is available in a Titan Grey shade, while the rest of the car debuts wearing a Liquid Rose Gold colour.
At this stage, Maserati is expected to officially introduce the GranCabrio Folgore sometime in 2025, and it will likely be joined by an all-electric MC20 sportscar as the brand transitions to become an all-electric carmaker.
