Developed to slot in below the Maserati Levante in order to compete with the Porsche Macan, the Maserati Grecale prototype is currently going through rigorous developmental testing in Sweden.
The cold weather testing, however, is conducted in Finland, Lapland where temperatures vary from a few degrees above zero to as low as -30°C where the maximum power of the SUV is extracted on very low grip surfaces.
Maserati engineers are then able to fine-tune the Grecale prototype’s start-up, drivability, traction, oversteer in different drive modes at extreme temperatures all with varying sizes and types of wheels.
According to the Modena-based marque, the Grecale remains exceptional on low grip handling tracks, completing high-performance laps on various circuits, from steering pads to more demanding routes featuring corners, slopes, long straights and drops all the while navigating the icy surfaces.
Details surrounding the Maserati Grecale remain unknown at this stage but reports state that it will be offered with options of hybrid, fully-electric and petrol powerplants.
The Maserati Grecale is scheduled to make its public debut later in the year.
