McLaren returns to endurance racing
McLaren is one of the leading manufacturers in racing, with its heritage strongly stemming from Formula 1. As the F1 team's young drivers continue to impress in the final stages of the season, we're thrilled to learn that the team in orange will enter the world of endurance racing in 2024.
McLaren has teamed up with the United Autosport team as proud partners in this racing discipline. United Autosport is no stranger to endurance racing and has seen its fair share of success, winning events such as the WEC and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMP2 class in 2020. Since its inception in 2010, this team has earned widespread acclaim as a formidable competitor in the field of endurance racing.
Although McLaren hasn't tried its hand at endurance racing in quite some time, having United Autosport on board as a partner is a solid way to get back into the game. McLaren has a rich history of endurance racing, with notable successes in the 1990s thanks to cars like the F1 GTR. Their crowning sports car achievement came in 1995, when they won the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Customer vehicles like those of David Price Racing and GTC Competition, who won the BPR Global Endurance Series, further contributed to the F1 GTR's rising popularity.
Unfortunately, it has been a barren stretch since the thrills of the 90s for the British supercar brand in endurance racing, but now it's back and its weapon of choice looks formidable. The 720S is a monster of a supercar and provides the team in orange with a dynamic platform to base its endurance car around. The name given to this race car is the 720S GT3 EVO, and it will be racing in the LMGT3 class.
The McLaren orange and blue colours are prominently visible on the side of this mostly black vehicle, creating a striking livery. Even though it seems at odds with the car's otherwise refined design, I can't say that it looks bad.
