Slated to become among the rarest of McLarens, the luxury supercar marque has confirmed that the production of the windscreen version of the Elva roadster will begin shortly.
The windscreen Elva shares most of its bits with the original model but with optimised aerodynamics as well as dynamic performance.
With no roof, side windows or rear screen, the windscreen Elva is 20 kg heavier than the screenless variant and it’s fitted with electronically synchronised rain-sensing wipers, washer jets as well as sun visors.
It is also fitted with a heated glass windscreen within a carbon fibre surround and no Active Management System.
“Super-lightweight and extremely powerful, the Elva delivers the ultimate connection between a driver, the road and the elements. Created to celebrate the pure joy of driving, it’s one of the most distinctive – and exclusive – cars we have made. Roofless and without windows, whether you opt for the screenless model with its sophisticated AAMS technology that provides an invisible barrier of air, or the windscreen version with an additional level of enclosure, this is a roadster that rewards owners with the most exhilarating of open-air driving experiences delivered as only a McLaren can.” Mike Flewitt, Chief Executive Officer, McLaren Automotive
Tipping the scales at 1 300 kg, the McLaren Elva windscreen features a mid-mounted, twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine with 599 kW and 800 Nm. It romps from a standstill to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds with the 0 - 200 km/h sprint time coming in at 6.8 seconds.
According to McLaren, the windscreen Elva’s dynamic performance and stiffness remain unchanged from the screenless model.
Only 149 units of the Elva will be specified and built with deliveries earmarked to begin towards the end of the year following personalisation by McLaren Special Operations (MSO).
