Mercedes-AMG A 35 and CLA 35 get special Edition 55 variants

More birthday surprises to mark the '55 years of AMG' anniversary have emerged in the form of the Mercedes-AMG A 35 hatch and CLA 35 Edition 55 special models.

The duo joins the track-only Mercedes-AMG GT Track Series and the G 63 Edition 55 variants in celebrating the tuning firm’s 55 years of gracing us with rumbling sounds. 

As a mere cosmetic upgrade, the Mercedes-AMG A 35 and CLA 35 Edition 55 spawn an AMG Aerodynamics Package that equips the cars with a front apron, enlarged front splitter, AMG rear wing and side spoiler lips on the rear apron’s optical air outlets. 

They also feature a blade diffuser finished in high-gloss black as well as AMG Night Package and AMG Night package II. These packages give the inserts in the AMG side sill trims, the side sill trim strip, the window line trim strip and the exterior mirror housings a high-gloss black finish. 

The exhaust trims are in black chrome while the AMG-specific radiator grille and type badges on the boot lid and wings get the high-gloss black paint. 

The A 35 and CLA 35 Edition 55 models come in cosmos black metallic or digital white metallic. They sit on 19” AMG multi-spoke light alloys finished in matt titanium grey hue and high-sheen rim flange. The exterior is rounded off by an AMG fuel cap in silver chrome with AMG lettering. 

The interior gets a contrast of black and red, AMG Performance seats upholstered in two-tone classic red/black leather, AMG Performance steering wheel in Dinamica microfibre with ‘Edition 55’ insignia badge and black 12 o'clock marking. 

There are AMG door sill panels with red illuminated AMG lettering and black AMG floor mats that spawn red contrasting stitching and ‘Edition 55’ lettering woven in red, as well as AMG brushed aluminium trim elements in the dark ‘Edition 55’ design with accents in black/red and the AMG logo.

Buyers of the A 35 and CLA 35 Edition 55 models get a customised AMG Indoor Car Cover in black with a silver-coloured AMG logo. 

By the look of things, there aren’t any performance tweaks to the duo. In their standard setting, they house a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with 225 kW and 400 Nm plus an AMG Speedshift DCT 7G transmission that sends power to all four wheels using the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.
