Monterey Car Week is Back: What to Expect
Located at the Weathertech Laguna Seca Raceway, Monterey Car Week celebrates all things motoring with an emphasis on racing. The world's most discerning collectors gather to display their specialty cars in what is a massive selection of old and new.
The Monterey has already started, but the juicy news is still to come as the event ends on Sunday. This event is like the American Goodwood without such an iconic hillclimb, but it still provides the perfect backdrop to launch some of the up-and-coming cars in the world's lens. This year there is a selection of highly anticipated vehicles that will be seen for the first time in the coming days, so here is the list of what to expect.
Starting with the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport ‘Golden Era’. We recently covered this one-of-a-kind masterpiece, but to make a long story short, this Chiron has 45 of the brand's most iconic cars, hand-sketched into the golden paintwork in a tribute to the brand's heritage.
The new electric concept from Lamborghini is the next eagerly anticipated vehicle. This is an intriguing introduction because the brand, which is known for rather loud exhaust notes, has decided to join the silent EV market.
The fact that Aston Martin has been keeping the details of their next reveal under wraps just adds to our excitement. It could be truly mind-blowing or something that raises an eyebrow or two.
Maserati is bringing their MCXtrema, an MC20-based track missile, which will show its face for the first time at the festival. This will be a rare sight, as only 62 examples will be made. And this rocket looks hot.
BAC, the British car manufacturer responsible for the Mono, is bringing their new single-seater to the festival as an exciting new unit that could impress the track-toy world.
Acura is a brand that may not ring a bell to everyone in SA, but Honda's North American performance branch is responsible for cars like the NSX and other iconic sports cars. But now it is their turn to also take a shot at the EV world with their first electric vehicle, the ZDX. What we do know is that it will be a rather quick crossover SUV.
Another brand that is not commonly discussed is Gordon Murray Automotive, but they are sure to make some noise this weekend with the unveiling of their sleek and beautiful T.33 Spider and more aggressive, track-only, and frankly stunning T.50s. These new supercars are set to launch with the 3.9-litre Cosworth V12, with a red line at 12,100r/min.
Hennessy has again upped the craziness in the Venom F5 and given us the Revolution Roadster. Now with a quick-release carbon fibre roof and enough power to put a rug of hair on your chest,
Infiniti is coming too with their QX Monograph concept, displaying the latest in their design ability.
The Pininfarina Pura Vision SUV Concept is one of the most visually striking vehicles on display during Monterey Car Week. An electric SUV from the future that looks like it was plucked from a video game; its body is all curves and smooth surfaces.
Mercedes-AMG is finally giving us a full look at the GT, although it won't be our first glance; we had an early preview of the new model at Goodwood last month.
These are some of the cars you can expect to see from Monterey over the next couple of days, but this is only scratching the surface. The Monterey Car Week is known for its unique displays of classic race cars, historic saloons, and rare supercars, so keep an eye on your social media to see just what special cars pop up at this incredible event.
