New Ford Mustang GT officially priced for SA
At long last, Ford South Africa has finally put a price tag on its 7th-generation Mustang, which is earmarked to launch locally in October.
To begin with, R1,300,000 is what Ford SA expects you to pay for the GT Fastback model, which comes standard with the Performance Pack for those fun track days. Included in the price tag as standard is a 4-year/120,000km warranty, 4-year/unlimited distance Roadside Assistance, and 5-year/unlimited distance corrosion warranty.
As a refresher, the Mustang soldiers on with the formidable 5.0-litre V8 Coyote naturally-aspirated engine but now tuned to deliver 328kW of power, down from the outgoing model’s 330kW due to stricter emission regulations. The torque figure, on the other hand, has been raised to 567Nm, up from 529Nm. Like before, the brand’s 10-speed automatic gearbox continues to send power to the rear axle.
Coming to the price tag, what else can you get for that amount? Well, there isn’t much, but buyers may consider the likes of the BMW M340i xDrive and the Mercedes-AMG A35 variants. With a price tag of R1,364 607, it packs a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six engine with 285kW and 500Nm channelled to all-fours via an xDrive system plus a smooth automatic gearbox. The A35, priced at R1,315,548 employs a smaller 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with 235kW and 400Nm, plus an automatic gearbox.
Across the region in Ingolstadt, buyers may also consider the Audi S4 TFSI Quattro and the ever-stylish RS 3 Sportback, priced at R1,300,200 and R1,330,800, respectively. Where the Mustang GT might win souls is in its iconic nameplate that has always been associated with the free-breathing V8 rumble and rear-wheel-drive configuration.
Beyond its powerful performance, the Mustang’s timeless design, significant cultural impact, affordability within the sports car segment, and rich racing heritage make it a standout choice for car aficionados.
