New Ford Ranger Single and Supercab now in SA
Following the local introduction of the Ranger double-cab models before the end of 2022, Ford is now expanding the Ranger line-up by adding the single cab and Supercab variants.
As business support of note, the variants are available in XL, XLT and a Wildtrak guise for the Supercab variant for the first time.
Starting with the single-cab models, they feature a 2.0-litre single turbo engine that produces 125 kW and 405 Nm paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission plus a choice of 4x2 or 4x4 systems.
The XLT trim, on the other hand, can only be had on the Supercab with the aforementioned 2.0-litre powerhouse. However, the 2.0-litre BiTurbo engine with 154 kW and 500 Nm is reserved only for the range-topping XLT Supercab, and Wildtrak trim levels.
The XLT models equipped with the single-turbo 2.0-litre engine can be had either with the 4x2 or 4x4 systems or a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The range-topping XLT and Wildtrak come equipped with Ford's 10-speed automatic transmission and 4x4 system.
Regarding specifications, the XL comes standard with 16" alloy wheels in Sparkle Silver shade, a body-colour front bumper, a black rear bumper and an optional towbar. Buyers have the option to upgrade using the XL Upgrade Packs. Other standard features include adjustable power mirrors, cloth seats, full carpets, all-weather rubber mats for the driver and passenger, and a 12-volt socket.
The XLT comes fitted with the C-clamp LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, a front grille with a chrome centre bar, and body-colour treatment for the mirrors, door handles and rear bumper. It also adds a spray-in bed liner with an integrated 12V power socket, side steps and a towbar as standard.
Like the XL, the XLT can be further customised using the Six Upgrade Packs that equip the bakkie with various features to suit the buyer.
As for the Wildtrak Supercab, it features a mesh grille, mirrors, front bumper, and rear bumper finished in signature Boulder Grey colour. It comes standard with the load box side step, roof rails, rear sports hoop, aluminium load box tie-down rails, LED front fog lamps and exterior mirrors with puddle lamps.
It rides on standard 18" alloy rims wrapped in all-season tyres with the option to have all-terrain 18" tyres or 20" alloy rims with all-season tyres. The standard interior features include 8-way power-adjustable front seats with partial leather trim, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, premium floor mats and overhead auxiliary switches for accessories.
Regarding versatility, the single-cab provides up to 2,305 mm of load box length and a payload capacity that ranges from 964 kg to 1,186 kg, depending on the model.
The expansion of the Ford Ranger line-up further gives buyers more options to choose from. While we were impressed with the double-cab variants, the single-cab and Supercab will further impress customers with their versatility.
