Opel revamps the Frontera nameplate
Opel is reviving the iconic Frontera nameplate, once known as the Isuzu Frontera in South Africa and renowned for its off-road prowess.
For the 2024 model year, the Frontera reappears on the market as a battery-electric car as the brand transitions to becoming an EV carmaker. According to Opel, it will come with a high level of space and versatility, which will make it a viable option for customers with active lifestyles.
While Opel isn’t sharing many details about the Frontera, it mentions that it will be offered at an "attractive" price.
“The name ‘Frontera’ is ideally suited to our new exciting SUV model. It will have a confident character and be positioned right in the core of the market,” says Florian Huettl, Opel CEO.
When it finally arrives, it will be sold alongside the all-electric version of the Grandland, which is slated to arrive this year. This will enable the Opel brand to offer at least one BEV version in each product segment.
As of today, Opel offers fully electric variants such as the Corsa Electric, the Mokka Electric, the Astra Electric, the Astra Sports Tourer Electric, the Combo Electric, and the Zafira Electric people carriers.
As for the commercial BEVs, Opel offers the likes of the new Combo Electric, the new Vivaro Electric and the new Movano Electric.
The first official images of the new Frontera are expected to be revealed sometime in the coming weeks, and if the new model embodies the attributes that made the iconic models so successful, it’s poised to be another triumph for Opel.
