Open-top Aston Martin DBR22 design concept honours a decade of Q Division

As a manner of celebrating a decade of Q by Aston Martin, the British carmaker is set to showcase its stunning two-seater open cockpit DBR22 design concept at the Monterey Car Week.

In case the Q nameplate doesn't ring a bell, it's Aston Martin's customer customisation division that builds iconic one-off commissions such as Aston Martin Victor, Vulcan and Vantage V600. The DBR22 design concept is coach-built and created from a minimal number of panels and if our eyes aren't deceiving us, there's a clear nod to the convertibles of the olden days.

Turns out, our eyes aren't deceiving us...

The front end incorporates an entirely new grille with a carbon fibre design unlike the usual design spawned by production Aston Martin vehicles.

The DBR22 sits on all-new 21" alloy wheels with a 14-spoke design you won't see on another Aston Martin. The wheels are said to be lightweight and feature a motorsport-derived centre-lock hub and can be painted in different hues available from an extensive colour pallet.

Developed using 'Paint to Sample', the DBR22 concept wears an entirely bespoke paint colour.

Settling into the DBR22, you're greeted by an interior that blends modern technology with classic design elements. This is further complemented by leather and exposed carbon fibre. There's an all-new dashboard and sleek infotainment displays for an uncluttered cabin layout as well as carbon fibre performance seats.

Carbon fibre and leather? Yes please.

Powering the DBR22 concept is a 5.2-litre V12 Twin-Turbo engine that gushes out 518 kW of power and 753 Nm of torque. It hurtles from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds before tapping out at 319 km/h all the while shuffling through an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Regarding the chassis, it features unique front and rear shear panels for enhanced torsional rigidity as well as bespoke calibration for the adaptive dampers and according to Aston Martin, the DBR22 will be an absolute pleasure to drive on the road and racetrack.

If you'd like to see the DBR22 design concept, it'll be on display at Pebble Beach Concours D' Elegance from Friday the 19th to Sunday 21st August.
