Order books open for new Lexus LX
Built on the same GA-F body-on-frame platform that also underpins the current Toyota Land Cruiser, Lexus South Africa has confirmed the local specification and pricing of its fourth-gen LX SUV.
The new Lexus LX boasts a fresh new design and joins the market in five trim levels; LX 500d, LX 500d F Sport, LX 600 seven-seater, LX 600 F Sport and LX 600 VIP. The entire LX range boasts five seats except for the LX 600 and VIP which feature seven and four seats respectively.
Lexus LX numbers
Before getting to the numbers, Lexus has moved the engine backwards by 70 mm and downwards by 28 mm for enhanced weight distribution while also improving the engine sound. There are two powertrain choices; a 3.5-litre V6 twin-turbo petrol and a 3.3-litre turbocharged diesel V6 with power outputs rated at 305 kW/ 650 Nm and 225 kW and an earth-moving 700 Nm, respectively.
Power reaches all four wheels via a newly-developed Direct Shift 10-speed automatic transmission plus an improved four-wheel-drive system. Just in case the numbers look familiar, it’s because the powertrain also does work underneath the Toyota Land Cruiser 300.

What’s new with the Lexus LX?
In typical Lexus style, the LX features a frameless front spindle grille, new headlights with three-projector unit lamps, and LED daytime running lights while the rear is fitted with L-shaped rear lights with a straight line as well as a redesigned logo.
Lexus has retained the outgoing LX’s wheelbase but stretched the new model’s width by 10 mm and height by 30 mm.
For the first time, Lexus offers an LX 600 VIP grade with an exclusive four-seat cabin configuration, independent, electrically-adjustable and heated/ventilated second-row seats, VIP Black and VIP Flare Brown trim ornamentation with semi-aniline leather upholstery.
The VIP trim also comes fitted with an ‘extra front slide mode’ for the front passenger seat, ceiling vents and a rear multi-information panel courtesy of 11.6” touch screen. It further features extended massage options plus 22” premium metallic alloy wheels.
The LX F Sport is making its debut in the LX and comes with front and rear-outboard seat heating, a heated steering wheel, centre console-mounted cool box, a digital rear-view mirror, soft-close doors and the Lexus-debut fingerprint identification for the engine start button.
It also comes fitted with a jet-black grille that features a mesh pattern and a black-plated grille frame, satin-plated moulding and standard 22” forged alloy wheels.
