Porsche's Taycan EV model has been bolstered with a RWD version

Porsche is expanding its Taycan fully-electric range with the introduction of the fourth variant that boasts rear-wheel-drive setup.

As a base model, and sitting right below the Taycan 4S stablemate, the Porsche Taycan RWD is available in two battery sizes; 79.2kWh Standard and a 93.4kWh Performance Battery Plus.

The Standard variant sees the Taycan generating 300 kW while the model fitted with the optional Performance Battery Plus churns out 350 kW.

Nominal power is 240 kW and 280 kW respectively.

While its siblings feature all-wheel-drive, the base Taycan model ditches the motor situated in the front axle thus becoming a tail-happy sports car. 

All that amount of grunt is entirely sent to the rear axle via a single, rear mounted electric motor. 

According to Porsche, the Taycan fitted with the Standard battery pack can travel up to 431 km while the model with the Performance Battery Plus package takes the distance further to 484 km, that’s per WLTP testing standards. 

Both models dash from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and onto a terminal top speed of 230 km/h. 

The model can be charged from 5 to 80 % in 22.5 minutes and that will enable a travel range of about 100 km. 

To set it apart from its siblings, the Taycan RWD is fitted with aerodynamically optimised 19-inch Taycan Aero wheels and black anodised brake callipers. 

It comes standard with LED headlights while elements such as the front apron, side sills and rear diffuser finished in black are borrowed from the 4S derivative. 

The cabin is bolstered with a central 10.9-inch infotainment system and if you like, you can fit a display for the front passenger as an option. 

Other interior standard features include a partial leather interior as well as front comfort seats with eight-way electrical adjustment. Two luggage compartments comprise of 84-litre boot space at the front and up to 407 litres worth of cargo space at the rear.

According to Porsche, the Taycan is the first Porsche model available with an entirely leather-free interior. The interior is entirely made from innovative recycled materials.
