Porsche Unveiled a Near-Perfect Track Toy
Many consider the 911 to be the pinnacle of drivers' cars, and with more than a couple variations, the RS models are the craziest of the bunch. The GT2 and GT3 RS sit in the hearts of many enthusiasts as the ultimate sports cars, but Porsche has unveiled a new model that looks the part, and it costs a pretty penny.
There is still a lot of excitement around the new GT3 RS as it raises the bar as one of the most refined track-focused cars you can buy, with features like DRS and its iconic GT-style wing, canards, and roll cage. The GT3 R is a whole new monster; in fact, it is so centred around track use that it's not even road-legal.
While this is a shame, it joins the ranks among legends like the Pagani Zonda R and Ferrari FXX K as cars we'll likely not see on the road. Still, there are still plenty of redeemable qualities to the GT R, despite the fact that you can’t take it to the shops.
This new unit is based on the 992 GT3 RS and has a power output of 456kW, weighing in at an impressive 1,240kg. It was designed to push the bar past regulation and into a realm of relative freedom, says Porsche. "The limited-edition tracktool is the result of a design-oriented approach and benefits technically from the freedoms that go beyond motorsport regulations.” It's all relative, really.
What makes the mere existence of this car even more bittersweet is its paintjob. The GT3 R's colours are inspired by the classic 962 racer that dominated the endurance racing scene.
The limited production run of only 77 units adds to the exclusivity and rarity of the GT3 Rennsport. This, combined with its hefty price tag of over $1 million, will further solidify its status as a highly sought-after track-only car among enthusiasts and collectors alike.
