Praga Bohema debuts wielding a Nissan GT-R engine at its heart
Unique supercars are emerging from every corner of the globe, and the latest one to emerge is the road-legal Bohema race-bred car built by Czech-based carmaker Praga.
If the name doesn't ring a bell, this is the same manufacturer that built the Praga V3S 5-tonne truck used by the Czechoslovak Army for over half a century. Also, the marque was a supplier of engines and gearboxes for other cars, including aircraft and tanks.
With a weight that tips the scales under 1,000 kg, Praga says the Bohema is targeting GT3 race car lap times, thanks to a Nissan-GTR-derived 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 engine beating at its heart. The engine pumps out 522 kW of power and 725 Nm, ensuring a top speed of over 300 km/h while shifting through a race-derived semi-automatic transmission which, according to Praga, will support a unique on-road experience with track-focused performance.
With significant weight reduction and superb aerodynamic setting in mind, the Bohema two-seater hypercar uses a carbon fibre monocoque, race-oriented fully-adjustable suspension plus innovative aerodynamics that includes a unique rear spoiler that adds over 900 kg of downforce at 250 km/h.
Moving inside, two scissor-doors swing open, giving access to a narrow cockpit due to the race-derived carbon fibre monocoque. The Bohema has steps built into the footwells for easy access, and a removable steering wheel also aids entry and exit.
The steering wheel incorporates a large display that shows the vehicle's speed, selected gear, and coolant temperature. The steering wheel's rim is wrapped in Alcantara, while the central pad is covered in leather with an embossed Praga logo.
Other interior features include a slim centre console with features such as launch control, an in-built fire extinguisher trigger and an electronic parking brake. The roof-mounted aircon controls take inspiration from the brand's aviation and race car divisions. Apart from the various storage pockets in the doors and behind the seats, the Bohema also gets deep storage areas within the aerodynamically styled rear wheel arches.
The Czech-based carmaker says it will only build 89 units of the Bohema, each priced at $1.3 million or R22,331,842 at current exchange rates. Praga says it expects to make about 20 Bohema models per year; however, a maximum of just 10 cars will be produced in 2023
