Prior Design's ID. Buzz Body Kit Proves There's Still More to EVs
If you thought EVs would be boring, think again. Eighteen-year-old Tom Belzek, the son of Andreas Belzek, who founded Prior Design, has designed a widebody kit for the fully-electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz.
As his first body kit, Tom will be responsible for all styling in the electric car fold at Prior. Speaking of the body kit, it undoubtedly adds more pizzazz to the overall look of the ID. Buzz, thanks to a beefier individual appearance that comes with an additional lip, a more striking front end, flared fenders and matching sills.
The kit also adds a diffuser and roof edge spoiler at the rear for a more 'stanced' look that most South Africans will approve of. All the beefier cosmetics have been fitted perfectly into the original design lines of the ID. Buzz as a nod to the light retro vibes in the style of the iconic T1 bus.
For added appeal, the chassis of the VW prototype has been lowered using KW coil-over suspension and new wheels. These include Rotiform rims and Aerdodiscs placed under the widened fenders.
While this is only a digital study, Prior says it could change if there are enough orders and series production will follow soon.
The ID. Buzz was revealed in March 2022 alongside the Cargo variant. Both pack a 77 kWh battery pack with a gross energy content of 82 kWh that shoves power to a single 150 kW and 310 Nm rear-mounted electric motor.
The new ID Buzz series is built at VW's plant in Hanover.
You see, electric cars may lack the blaring sound that comes with having an internal combustion engine; however, Tom's study further proves that the word 'boring' only exists in the Merriam-Webster dictionary but not when talking about EVs.
