Range Rover Sport SV Edition Two introduced with four bespoke variants
The Range Rover Sport SV remains a formidable model that has cemented its reputation in the mid-size SUV stable against serious contenders such as the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63, BMW X5 M Competition and Audi RS Q8. It’s positioned in the market as an SUV that blends performance and luxury with outstanding practicality.
In 2023, the Range Rover Sport SV Edition One was built specifically for the brand’s most loyal customers, and only 675 units were built, all of which have been sold out. On to the Edition Two, and it's mechanically identical to the Edition One. This means that it still employs the same BMW-sourced 4.4-litre V8 engine with 467kW and 750Nm, enough to accelerate the large SUV from rest to 100km/h in 3.7 seconds en route to a top speed of 290km/h. It continues to shuffle through an 8-speed automatic transmission that drives all four wheels as standard.
Speaking of the SV nameplate in general, it is the successor to the previous SVR of yesteryears that wielded a characterful 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine. Unfortunately, that engine is gone and it’s been replaced by the unit from Bavaria.
Besides being the same in terms of mechanical elements as the Edition One, Range Rover says the newcomer is 76kg lighter than the normal SV models, thanks to a combination of carbon ceramic brakes, standard-fit aerodynamic enhancements, and a carbon fibre bonnet.
Unlike the Edition One that debuted in 2023 with three curated looks, the SV Edition Two comes with four new themes: Blue Nebula Matte, Ligurian Black Gloss, Marl Grey Gloss, and Sunrise Copper Satin, each with distinctive specifications. The Blue Nebula, for one, features a matte finish that is inspired by the Northern Atlantic coast and adds a new satin-forged carbon exterior pack, a painted carbon-fibre bonnet, and 23-inch forged black alloy wheels that are home to Blue Nebula brake callipers. The interior gets SV Performance seats that are finished in Light Cloud and Ebony Windsor leather.
The Marl Grey Gloss colour is matched with 23-inch Carbon Gloss wheels with Sunrise Copper callipers, an exposed Carbon Twill bonnet, and a Gloss Carbon Twill exterior kit while Ebony Windsor and Rosewood finishes are included in the interior.
In contrast, the Sunrise Copper Satin exterior finish is complemented by a painted carbon fibre bonnet, a Satin Carbon Twill exterior pack, and a 23-inch forged black alloy wheel with red anodised callipers. The interior isn’t short of some stunning goodies, courtesy of ebony Windsor leather-wrapped seats.
Lastly, the Ligurian Black Gloss exterior comes with a Satin Carbon Twill exterior pack, an exposed carbon fibre bonnet, and 23-inch Carbon Gloss wheels with contrasting Nano Yellow brake callipers. As for the interior, it gets Cinder and Ebony treatment in the knit and ultrafabrics.
When it comes to key standard features across the range, the special model comes fitted with SV Performance Seats with carbon fibre backs, massage functions, an illuminated SV Mode button, bigger paddle shifters that now include LED illumination, and Body and Soul Seat in-car sensory technology for enhanced comfort.
While looks are an entirely subjective topic, the Sport SV Edition Two certainly cuts a distinguished figure against the more 'middle-of-the-road' Range Rover—something that couldn't exactly be said about the previous generation SVR, if we’re being honest.
As of now, Land Rover has yet to disclose pricing or availability details for the SV Edition Two in Mzansi. However, one thing is certain: it won’t come cheap. For a clear perspective, the SV Edition One commanded a price tag of R3,965,000 when it arrived in SA in 2023. Regardless of cost considerations, if you happen to join the exclusive ranks of those who secure this bespoke SUV, it will undoubtedly be a worthy addition to your automotive collection.
