Security improvements announced for several Toyota cars
As much as vehicle safety remains a priority for manufacturers, Toyota South Africa has announced safety enhancements to some of its vehicles following extensive research and development into its security systems.
The Japanese marque and local automotive intelligence have figured out that criminals make use of sophisticated modus operandi to target luxury vehicles that have keyless or smart entry systems as well as emergency start capabilities.
The method used by criminals exploits the car’s computer-controlled systems in three modes; Can Attack, Fob Relaying and a combination of Forced Entry and Key Cloning.
That said, Toyota has now developed several techniques to counterattack possible theft of its cars including Lexus vehicles. According to the brand, the method has been reviewed and evaluated by VSS Administration while also being shared with the Toyota dealer network.
So in that case, customers who own the Hilux Legend from 2019, Fortuner from 2016, Land Cruiser Prado XV and VXL from 2017, all Land Cruiser 200 models with smart entry, Land Cruiser 300 as well as Lexus RX and LX variants from 2015 can take their cars to the nearest dealership for security enhancements from the first week of December at no cost to the customer.
New vehicles including those arriving at dealers for servicing will receive the enhancements automatically.
