Shelby Founder Honored with Centennial Edition
It’s been 100 years since Carroll Shelby put together his expertise and founded the company we now know as Shelby, which changed the course of the global motoring industry.
To celebrate the century, Shelby is introducing a limited run of 100 Centennial Edition Mustangs in the United States and another 21 in other markets, three of which are set aside for the local market.
The unique models can be ordered through Shelby SA’s regional mod shops.
Based on the current-gen Ford Mustang GT, the Centennial edition is available as a fastback or convertible, with a manual or automatic gearbox wielded together with a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine with 560 kW - a substantial increase from the standard car’s 330 kW.
The engine upgrades come from a Shelby performance radiator, fluid caps and a Borla exhaust system. For enhanced handling prowess, Shelby has fitted the Centennial edition with performance springs and sway bars, adjustable caster and camber plates.
As for the stopping power, this is offered by a set of Brembo callipers housed by 20” alloy wheels wrapped in high-performance rubber. Other bespoke features include widened front fenders, a Shelby-specific upper grille, a rear spoiler, tail panel, side rocker wings and satin black vinyl stripping.
The interior gets Shelby floor mats, a new gauge cluster, door sill plates and a Shelby-spec leather upgrade.
Priced from R2,800,00, each model comes with a Team Shelby membership. The current-gen Mustang is nearing the end of its life. Despite the abundance of unique Mustang variants, the Centennial Edition is expected to stand out even more as a sought-after model among collectors.
