Shell Track day with V-Power 100%: Fuel for thought.
Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit is a national treasure which has, and will continue, to go down in the history pages of SA. From hosting Formula One for over two decades in the '70s and '80s, to hosting the Festival of Motoring, the circuit has played a major role in the South African motorsport context. Hopefully Formula One will return soon, but that's a discussion for another day. As you can imagine, my excitement levels skyrocketed when I saw the word Kyalami pop up in my inbox...
Shell invited us to a track day at Kyalami, and little did I know what exactly this would entail. Kyalami, Shell... it looked promising. Sure, it's associated with one of the most iconic F1 teams, but Shell is also a global leader in the manufacturing of fuels and engine lubricants. I'm almost positive that everybody has, at some point, used a Shell-branded filling station, even if it was for a late-night snack...
Like me, I reckon many of you don't necessarily prefer one fuel brand over the other – if it keeps the engine running, well, that ought to do... Some, though, might have preferences due to loyalty cards, insurance returns, or discounts on mouthwash at certain stores. But now, Shell is offering a fuel unlike any other, one which they claim changes the game. Any loyalty benefits, that's just a bonus.
Shell V-Power 100% is the first fuel type, Shell says, that can clean your car's fuel and engine components, completely. It rejuvenates parts like your fuel pump and injectors and in doing so, restores your engine to its former glory. Shell V-Power 100% breaks down carbon deposits which can build up around your injectors. These deposits can affect the performance of your motor and can cause damage to your engine. Shell claims that its new product acts similar to that of a limescale remover that's used to clean shower heads and taps to renew some aesthetic appeal. V-Power 100% comes in both a petrol and diesel variant, so no matter what vehicle you drive, you can restore your motors injectors and other parts to their former glory by simply filling it up.
The event itself was spectacular. Being a good partner of Shell, it was no surprise to see a selection of Ferraris show up to the track and help Shell show off their new fuel. I was fortunate enough to experience the Ferrari Portofino on the track and it's a monster, to say the least.
Shell did it right; with the help of their friends at the BMW Advanced Driving School, we had the opportunity to drive our favourite BMW M cars around the track. From M2s and M4s to the X3 and X4Ms, there was a particularly special selection to choose from. However, since I'm a man who loves the M brand, I couldn't throw away the opportunity to take the M5 Competition around the Grand Prix circuit.
That's exactly what I did. We managed to reach a rather respectable 220 km/h down the main straight. In the corners, this large saloon held its own rather impressively. I have to mention one of the most incredible sounds which were produced by this M5, being the 4.4 litre V8, fuelled by the all-new Shell V-Power 100%.
Shell has an impressive product with its V-Power 100%, one which, as an engine tinkerer myself, I'm quite keen to try out. It is, after all, the details that matter...
Shell's V-Power 100% has made me think more actively about what I'm putting into my fuel tank since it is one-half of an engine's diet. As of now, mine is going on a detox.
