By the look of things, Suzuki is currently hard at work readying a five-door version of its Jimny, and if the spy images are to be believed, it looks ready to lose its heavy camouflage.
The five-door Suzuki Jimny, which will likely be called Jimny Long, was spotted testing somewhere in Europe and if you look closely, it retains its two-door counterpart's looks but with a stretched wheelbase to accommodate the extra two doors.
Suzuki remains tight-lipped regarding the model but as far as reports go, it could feature a hybridised powertrain that could potentially replace the current model's 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated unit that delivers 75 kW of power and 130 Nm of torque.
If that's the case, it could house the Vitara full-hybrid powertrain, which consists of a 1.5-litre petrol engine coupled to a 140-Volt hybrid system with a 24.6 kW supplemental electric motor.
When we sampled the current two-door model a few years ago, we longed for a much bigger version with improved space. A report in 2020 stated that Suzuki will introduce the larger Jimny to the Indian market followed by other markets across the globe.
Regarding specification levels, we expect the Jimny Long to come in GA and GLX trim levels for the local market.
It remains unclear when exactly Suzuki will unveil the Jimny Long; however, as previously stated, it looks about ready for a debut and will likely be offered to the local market in 2023. We keep our fingers crossed.
