The Festival of Motoring is sure to deliver a dose of adrenaline.
In 2022, it seems that our lives are normalising following the global pandemic. With lockdowns, curfews and overall dread subsiding, we are seeing the return of our favourite events. One such event is the Kyalami Festival of Motoring — something I've been yearning for over the past few years.
The Festival of Motoring is one of the biggest motoring events on the South African calendar. It hosts a variety of motoring-inspired experiences and provides the public with an opportunity to experience the latest and greatest from the biggest names within the motoring industry. The Festival of Motoring is a fantastic opportunity for car lovers of all stripes to get together and celebrate the joys of being a petrolhead or a great way to spend a day with friends and family.
Add to that the possible return of Formula One, and the Festival of Motoring provides you with the opportunity to experience the Grand Prix Circuit in a theme park sort of way. You can soak it all in or stand in line for hot laps. Once you've had your turn, hop into the next queue and repeat. This provides you with a brilliant opportunity to invite your not-so-car-savvy friends and family to experience just why we love cars so much.
What to expect for 2022
The festival is a showground for the latest vehicles on the local market and allows the public to experience it first-hand. This year Mercedes-Benz will be showing off their latest line of EVs which we have been looking forward to for some time now. You'll be able to interact with the Mercedes-Benz EQA, EQB, EQC and EQS or experience the EQ range on the race track. This will be the first time the motoring festival will have a strong focus on electric vehicles for the public to experience.
Sure, some would prefer to be thrown around the circuit in a twin-turbo-charged V8 monster, but I have to inform you that electric cars are quite lively, to say the least. Don't let the noise, or lack thereof fool you...
The festival allows people from all walks of life to broaden their understanding of the motoring industry and have a better grasp of what EVs and other various cars are all about.
Another brand, or rather group, that'll be showing off their latest and greatest at the festival will be the Stellantis Group. The brands which will be displayed at the festival under Stellantis will be Jeep, Fiat, Peugeot, Opel, Citroen, Abarth, and Alfa Romeo. They'll be showing off some of the most exciting vehicles around, like the all-new Gladiator Rubicon and Landtrek tackling the 4x4 trails. Peugeot's new GT Line will also be present in the pit lane along with a selection of other exciting vehicles to choose from.
Ready for a surge of adrenaline?
The Kyalami Festival of Motoring is an event where adults become kids again and is an incredible day out for the whole family. I'll provide you with a warning, though: at the last Festival of Motoring I took my grandpa around the track in an Audi RS 5 and he didn't talk to me for a while...
Tickets are on sale now online at R250 per adult and R188 per pensioner. Tickets for kids under 12 will be R50, while the small ones under 6 can get access for R20. VIP packages are also available, so be sure to check out the Festival of Motoring's website to ensure that you aren't missing out. The 2022 Festival of Motoring is a must-do event, especially if you enjoy anything with wheels. Welcome back, Festival of Motoring, we've surely missed you.
