The Mazda MX-5 Received an Update and an LSD
The MX-5 is a car with a long history since it is one of the few sportscar names from the 90s with a largely unchanged recipe. It is an adorable little car that has built quite a reputation for its fun nature and cute looks. Mazda has announced that the 2024 model will receive a bit of an update, with the most exciting being an asymmetric LSD.
The MX-5 is the pinnacle of entry-level rear-wheel drive sports cars. This title used to also be held by the GT86 however the GR86 has become less of an entry-level competitor due to its price increase. This means that if you are in the market for a fun little car which you can slide around in and not ‘break the bank’ then the MX5 may well be the car for you.
The 2024 MX-5 isn't too different from the current model, but what it does feature is a new headlight design, which sharpens up the front end a little more. A refined wheel design option will now be available.
Arguably the biggest change with the upcoming MX-5 is its performance, as Mazda has worked on improving its trackability and driving experience. The most noticeable addition is a new asymmetric limited-slip differential, which allows for better cornering dynamics, especially on corner turn-in.
In addition, the MX-5 also has a more advanced stability control system for faster and safer track times, named DSC Track. Both the new LDS and DSC Track will exclusively be fitted to the manual variants.
The 2024 MX-5 Miata will continue to use the 2.0-litre engine that is used in the current model, but these new additions will help improve the overall driving experience. This should make the already bare-bones driver-focused rear-wheel-drive sports car that much more engaging. Whether or not we receive more MX-5s locally is something only time will tell.
