Volkswagen Touareg enhanced for 2024

The Volkswagen Touareg stands out as a distinguished SUV in its lineup, offering a stylish and refined option to the Audi Q7, BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE, and Porsche Cayenne.

In 2018, VW introduced the third-generation model, it was this specific generation that we found impressive. This iteration excels as an executive family SUV, showcasing unparalleled competence and sophistication.

For the 2024 model year, the Touareg has been given a significant makeover to keep it fresh in the market. For starters, it’s set to launch in Mzansi in August and will be available in two trim levels; Elegance and R-line, both powered by the same 3.0-litre V6 TDI with 190kW and 600Nm paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Aesthetically, the Touareg’s front and rear ends are new, courtesy of the new IQ.Light HD matrix headlights with three LED modules and three L-shaped LEDs as daytime running lights, new alloy wheels, and new bumpers with specific designs, while the rear gets a new illuminated centre horizontal strip that extends from both sides of the VW logo which is illuminated in red.

The interior on the other hand has been enhanced, thanks to the addition of 45-watt (previously 15-watts) USB-C charging ports, improved voice control, centre console trims that are now softer than before for improved comfort, 30 colour ambient lighting with adjustable colour settings, and electrically adjustable leather seats.

It’s worth noting that it also comes fitted with a multi-functioning steering wheel with touch controls that we found to be prone to unintended activation in the current outgoing Tiguan, Golf 8 GTI and R models.

Starting at R1,457,900 for the Elegance trim and R1,763,900 for the R-Line, the Touareg is a formidable powerhouse in the luxury SUV market. While it impresses with its performance and features, a wider selection of engine options would sweeten its charm even further.

It comes standard with a 5-year/100,000km Maintenance Plan, a 3-year/120,000km warranty, and a 12-year anti-corrosion warranty. The service interval is 15,000km.
